Happy National Surveyors Week!
This year, we’re spotlighting just a couple of the unique and impactful projects our Survey Division is working on—and showing how surveyors play a critical role in shaping infrastructure, restoring and preserving history, and planning for the future.
One standout project is the Star Line (Southern Tier Area Reliability Project), part of New York State’s Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA). This initiative supports the state’s goal of achieving net‑zero emissions by 2050, which requires major upgrades to aging transmission infrastructure across New York. Our survey team is providing Avangrid with detailed right‑of‑way mapping (seen in images 1-6) to define ownership limits, support easement acquisition, identify encroachments, and assist with construction planning for new transmission lines.
We’re also proud to be working on the New York State Capitol Eastern Approach Rehabilitation Project, a historic preservation effort focused on repairing and restoring the eastern side of the Capitol building. Due to aging construction, key elements—including the staircase, promenade, portico, and executive ramp—require repairs and replacements. Our team is providing quality assurance and quality control for vertical survey data in accordance with Office of General Services requirements (seen in image 7+). In addition, we are monitoring a retaining wall along the executive ramp during excavation to ensure structural stability as surrounding ground is removed.
From climate‑focused energy projects to safeguarding iconic landmarks, surveyors are involved in far more than meets the eye—and we’re proud of the work our team does every day.
