Additions & Alterations
Additions are an extension or increase in floor area, number of stories, or height of a building or structure. An Architect can determine if an addition to a building complies with the Uniform Code as adopted for new construction, without requiring the existing building to comply with the same requirements, except where the addition impacts the existing building or structure.
Alterations involve any construction or renovation to an existing structure other than a repair or addition. An Architect can also assist in identifying accessibility requirements for additions and alterations, which must also comply with the standard for accessible and usable buildings and facilities by persons with disabilities, to the extent that is technically feasible.
