Albany International Airport – Sand Storage Facility
Albany, New York
C.T. Male Associates provided architectural, geotechnical, survey and land development services for a new Sand Storage Facility at the Albany International Airport as part of an Airport Efficiency Improvement Program.
The architectural services needed included the design of new 9,900 square foot single story structure designed in accordance with U.S. DOT and FAA requirements for the storage and loading of runway sanding materials. Initial programming services involved determining an efficient location including direct uninhibited access to the runway for quick and effective maintenance of airport runways during inclement weather. Typical operations within the building are limited to storage of sanding material, storage of sanding/plow vehicles as well as the loading operations of sand materials into the trucks.
Close coordination with the airport authority and other consultants involved on the project was essential for the management of site/runway security, avoiding interference with the surrounding day-to-day operations of the airport, and compliance with FAA regulations.
