St John’s Church Renovation
Johnstown, New York
In 2014, while the church was evaluating options for increasing the size of the church within tight physical constraints an opportunity arose with the listing of an adjacent 3 story brick structure that had been the home of the YMCA. With much discernment and a fair leap of faith the church purchased the building with a plan to create new space for their church office, the NOAH Sunday meal program and the food pantry.
Since that decision to purchase the building, they have become stewards of the heart of downtown, slowly improving the structure and renaming it One Church. With much planning and fundraising, St. Johns has moved forward with their plans to do a multi-level renovation that includes a new elevator, new commercial kitchen, floor structure over the original pool and installation of new mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems.
The design features new facilities for existing programs that have been housed in the historic church building. The renovated building will make all programs accessible, light filled and vibrant places to carry out the mission of service to the community.
