C.T. Male Associates Long-Term Recovery and Resiliency Project Experience

C.T. Male Associates’ Architecture Division is currently working with the Town of Shandaken, under the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Community Development Block Grant–Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) funding for long-term recovery and resiliency projects. Funding is being delivered through the NY Rising Community Reconstruction (NYRCR) Program of the New York State Governor’s Office of Storm Recovery (GOSR).

During Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee, the current Shandaken Town Hall complex was flooded by stormwater from Esopus Creek whose channel is located 50 yards from the complex. Additionally, other government facilities located in the Villages and Hamlets of Shandaken also experienced catastrophic flooding and other damage incurred by the two storms. This condition persisted for several days following the storm water events. The lack of secure, flood-resistant, and continuous center of operations not only affected the Town’s administrative and emergency operations but also the Shandaken Fire Department, Shandaken Ambulance Services, Highway Maintenance Garage, and the Shandaken Animal Shelter. C.T. Male Associates is now working with the Town, through the New York Rising Community Reconstruction planning process, to develop a plan to consolidate many of its services and administrative functions to a flood-safe location.
