C.T. Male Associates Retained By Village Of Hudson Falls To Identify Grant Opportunities For Purchase Of Historic Courthouse
The Village of Hudson Falls, located in Upstate New York’s Washington County, has its sights on purchasing the former Washington County Courthouse building. The Village has until June 1 to act on an option to buy the courthouse complex for $300,000. An important landmark, purchasing the courthouse would help make it possible for Hudson Falls to both preserve and rehabilitate one of the most historically significant buildings in the town for use as a community center.
Last month, New York State Assemblywoman Carrie Woerner, D-Round Lake, announced she has requested $250,000 in state funding that would go toward the $300,000 purchase price. The Assemblywoman chose to get involved because of the historic preservation aspect of the project and because of the Village’s plans to utilize the building as a community center. As the former executive director of the Saratoga Springs Preservation Foundation, Assemblywoman Woerner believes this project is an important way to preserve the past, and look toward the future.
James Thatcher, Manager of Community Development at C.T. Male Associates, has been asked by Village representatives to assist in identifying and researching suitable short and long-term grant opportunities that would facilitate the rehabilitation of the former Courthouse and its redevelopment into a community center. In its new role as a community center, the rehabilitated courthouse will be home to a variety of youth programs and various social services, as well as private business development intended to help improve the tax base and revitalize the downtown Hudson Falls area.
