Griffiss Business and Technology Park
C.T. Male Associates was retained by Mohawk Valley EDGE to design and develop alternatives for a future mixed-use development, including commercial, mixed commercial and residential facilities, on a previously developed site. The scope of work for the project included layout and development of proposed alternatives for the overall technology park and the design of a streetscape, which incorporated a number of “green infrastructure” components. Additionally, the extension of existing offsite utilities, including water and sewer, was investigated and incorporated into the proposed design. A Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) and quantity takeoffs were also prepared as a part of the project.
The site contained a number of buildings, which were constructed in the 1990s, as well as a number of paved areas. The buildings were demolished as part of another project; however, many of the paved areas still remain. Some of the existing paved areas will be redeveloped as part of this project.
Two concept scenarios were prepared for the overall development, one of which was selected and advanced in the fall of 2016. The planned roadway was designed to best suit the future mixed-use development by keeping pedestrians in mind and incorporating both aesthetic and functional stormwater management practices into the design.
Stormwater management was accomplished entirely on-site, as native soils are Hydrologic Soil Group (HSG) “A”, which made the site conducive to incorporating stormwater management practices with an infiltration component. As such, bioretention areas (bioswales), a porous asphalt bike path and grassed infiltration swales were selected to treat the proposed roadway and associated sidewalks.
C.T. Male Associates prepared construction drawings, developed a bid package and assisted the client with the bidding process.
