May is National Building Safety Month
President Obama has proclaimed May as National Building Safety Month for the fifth consecutive year. Spring is the time of year when many people invest in their homes and business. Large and small jobs that help make our homes and businesses safer environments to live and work.
The purpose of National Building Safety Month is to highlight the essential role that safe building codes and standards play in decreasing the damaging effects of disasters. This is the time for people to prepare their homes and business for disasters, especially ones that are common in your area.
The government is working across the nation to make sure all areas have adopted the most up-to-date building codes and standards to help protect individuals and our cities and towns. Here are some examples of actions to take:
- Elevating your home or business property
- Using more resilient Construction Materials
- Employing safe and sustainable design methods
- Making smart energy choices
