National Surveyors Week
A Time for Teaching and Awareness
Each year in the third week of March, the U.S. celebrates National Surveyors Week, a week dedicated to fostering public recognition of the profession of surveying, while honoring the numerous contributions surveyors have made and continue to make to the nation’s economy. In 2018, National Surveyors Week takes place March 18-24.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, there were nearly 45,000 professional surveyors in the U.S. as of 2016. Hundreds of these highly trained experts across the U.S. will participate in various activities during National Surveyors Week, ranging from events spotlighting surveyors’ contributions throughout history, as well as the cutting-edge technologies that are redefining the profession’s future.
At C.T. Male Associates, Surveying is our largest and oldest Division. When Charles T. Male founded our firm in 1910, he initially provided Civil Engineering and Surveying services. The Survey Division employs 35 staff including 11 Licensed Surveyors, licensed to practice in eight states. Over the past 100+ years, surveyors’ equipment has changed dramatically. Today’s surveyors use GPS, drones and high definition laser scanners that can create 3D models. But they still maintain their connections to history – often tracing boundaries that were first established hundreds of years ago.
C.T. Male Associates is committed to introducing the youth of the Capital District to the profession of surveying. If you have a child who likes math & history; likes the outdoors; know a school hosting a career day; know someone who would like to shadow a surveyor or participate in an internship, please contact us at 518.786.7400 and we’ll be happy to assist.
